Dear Mr. President,

Dear Colleagues,

I am very grateful that the Pope Francis will have a speech in the European Parliament addressing its Members.

I am convinced that the Pope Francis is one of the few personalities who are able to unite people of the world in difficult circumstances that those people often face. His messages, that we can listen to, have the potential to encourage peace, solidarity, conciliation and to help those who are disadvantaged. Our world needs personalities who have capacity of appeal and impact on people´s behaviour, including policy makers and stakeholders, and thus influence the development of societies. I believe that the Members of EP are going to accept the Pope Francis in a friendly atmosphere.

The Europe needs to see that her representatives are able to think about serious challenges and about solutions for the better future of Europe offered by the Pope Francis. In the light of our commonly shared values of respect and tolerance I believe that we can create a decent ambiance for the Pope´s visit and thus prove that we are able to act according to the principles that the EP promotes.
